Nestled in between Nepal, China, Bhutan and West Bengal, Sikkim still remains the best-kept secret in the Himalayas. Remote, wild and unbelievable, the small state tucked in the eastern Himalayas is an experience simply out of the world. The huge peaks and tumbling glaciers to the south of Kangchenjunga provide a magnificent backdrop on what is one of the finest treks. For those with little time and less inclination to undergo the rigours of hard mountain trekking, a trek up to the meadows of Dzongri will offer the benefits of having experienced a truly spectacular alpine trek. This trek is a paradise for the plant lover with over 4000 species of flowering plants, including 600 species of Orchids. The forest harbours a wide variety of birds and butterflies. Some of the animals found along this trail are the Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Musk Deer, Marbled Cat, Langur and the Red Panda. |
