This is a spectacular trek to the foot of Kanchenjunga – the world’s third highest mountain. With valleys ranging from only a few hundred metres above sea level to some of the highest mountains of the Himalaya, the tiny state of Sikkim has incredibly varied scenery. It is the ultimate Paradise for those interested in flora and fauna with over 4000 species of flowering plants and 700 species of birds. Some of the animals found along this trail are the Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Musk Deer, Marbled Cat, Langur and the Red Panda. The huge peaks and tumbling glaciers to the south of Kanchenjunga provide a magnificent backdrop making it a trekkers delight. Following trails through pristine sub-tropical and rhododendron forest, we establish our magnificent alpine camps en route to the huge amphitheatre of peaks and glaciers of the upper Rathong Valley. |
