Compared to other cities of the world, Kathmandu is still relatively safe to walk around in, but it has increasing problems with crime, as do all major cities. You’ll be wise to follow these simple safety precautions: Do not walk alone in the street after 9 pm. Always walk with a group or your fellow companion. When walking around town, carry only a reasonable amount of spending money and credit card stashed in a money belt or neck pouch (bags and purses attract attention). Don’t exchange money with people on the street; exchange your money at the hotel and keep your receipts. While walking during the night always carry you head torch as the roads are rough with many potholes and black outs are a common occurrence here in Nepal. |
